2005 BRASSWORLD ALL-STAR GAME

FOX RIVER FIELD - WAUKESHA, WI

All Star Game Boxscore

The visiting National League got the scoring started right off the bat.  Leadoff hitter Mark Loretta stroked a single off of the NL Starter Carlos Zambrano.  He moved to second on a wild pitch, and then Jim Edmonds singled, moving Loretta to third.  Migel Tejada then grounded into a double play, giving the AL a 1-0 lead.

The Americans came right back to tie it in the bottom half of the inning when Barry Bonds had a splashdown shot (into the Fox River) off of NL starter Ben Sheets.  Each of the starting pitchers then recorded a scoreless second inning, each with the help of a double play.

Randy Johnson and Roger Clemens made it an ‘Over 40’ party on the mound for the third, and each put up a goose egg for the frame.  Johan Santana worked around a single by Tejada for a scoreless top of the 4th, but Oliver Perez was greeted by a Manny Ramirez blast to put the AL up 2-1 after four.  The 5th saw Freddie Garcia and eventual winner Paul Wilson give up nothing but a walk each.

The NL bats jumped all over losing pitcher Curt Schilling in the top of the 6th.  Jim Edmonds and Tejada started with back to back singles, and Albert Pujols came in to rip a double scoring Edmonds and moving Tejada to third.  Bobby Abreu flew out, too shallow to score Pujols, but Hank Blalock was able to get one deep enough, giving the NL a 3-2 lead.  Miguel Cabrera belted a 2 run blast to right center before Schilling was able to strike out Jorge Posada to end the inning.

Chris Carpenter worked the bottom of the 6th, and after getting Bonds to ground out to start the frame, he gave up singles to Shawn Green, David Ortiz and Scott Rolen to get the NL back to within 2 at 5-3.  He was then able to work out of the jam by striking out Alex Rodriguez, and getting Mark Bellhorn to line out.

The bullpens took over from there with Danny Baez giving up a hit in the in the top half of the 7th, and BJ Ryan getting 3 K’s around a hit and a walk in the bottom half.  Joe Nathan and LaTroy Hawkins each worked a scoreless 8th.  John Smoltz gave up a single to Chone Figgens in the 9th, but got Jeff Kent to bounce into a double play to end the inning.

Ugeth Urbina was brought in to face Moises Alou to start the bottom of the 9th, getting him to line out.  Billy Wager then finished off the win for the NL by striking out Johnny Estrada and JD Drew.

Jim Edmonds and Miguel Tejada each had a pair of hits, but Miguel Cabrera had the big blast of the game to win MVP honors.  Paul Wilson got credit for the win, Billy Wagner the save, and Curt Schilling was tagged with the loss.
